Shimla: The Jai Prakash Group would come up with the first captive power plant in Himachal Pradesh at Bagheri village near Nalagarh. The 30 MW plant would supply power to the cement plant being built in the area by the same company. This would be the first such initiative after the government made up its mind on captive power tapping in the state. The power plant would use coal and rice husk as fuel to generate electricity. Earlier the group had also proposed to set up a thermal power plant in the area, but the proposal was put in cold storage after local resistance. Interestingly, the cement plant coming up in the area has also invited public outcry with locals claiming to have suffered due to the construction work. Under the captive power policy, any company can set up electricity producing units for their own use, requiring minimum clearances.
