Shimla: The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has given go ahead for 12 new polytechnic and three new engineering colleges in Himachal. The engineering colleges would come up in Una, Kangra and Bilaspur districts while the polytechnic would be spread across the state.

All politechnics will have an initial intake of 40 students in each of the five trades to be taken up. The state government has also decided to close 110 SCBT centres and open 102 ARCs. Sources said that the government had found irregularities in the functioning of SCBT centres as these were running without adequate infrastructure and were also charging hefty fee. The government has now also decided to open pharma institutes in the near future.

  1. How can private sector contribute to education in India? Here is an interesting series of article. Please read till part 10.

    Excerpt:

And who, you may ask, will be attending schools and colleges? My answer is: everyone. If India liberalizes the education sector, then everyone – rich poor, minority, majority, this caste, that caste, this religion, that religion, you name it – will be able to get an education. Only problem will be: the politicians will have to figure out some other way of dividing the country. But that is their problem, not ours.

  2. Though the growth in number of professional colleges and number of seats in such colleges is a welcome move but are regulators taking care of

    1. Students passout in 10+2 exam for current academic session is approximately 11000.

    2. Number of seats in Medical :455

    In Engg : 4000 (Approx)

    3. Additional Proposed seats in newly proposed medical colleges : 800

    4. Professional Seats vs Students Ratio has come down to 1:2.5 compared to 1:100 a decade back .

    5. Are we expecting talented Engineers and Doctors against such circumstances .

    6. there is a need to prepare roadmap for strengthening the education in pre engg/pre med (10+2) level so that more and more students opt for science stream .

    regards
