Bullet triggers pandemonium outside court

Shimla: The deputy commissioner’s office complex here witnessed high drama and chaos on Monday afternoon when a bullet was accidently fired from the pistol of an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) while he was handing over the weapon to his fellow police constable.

The bullet hit an almira placed near the door of the court of district and sessions judge,leaving everybody in the complex stunned. According to eyewitnesses, there was complete pandemonium in the whole complex for about half-an-hour and everybody there thought that some mishap had happened or police was envolved in an encounter in the court room.

The wincident happened when ASI Ram Swaroop, who had come with the main accused of Mundaghat murder case in present him before the sessions judge, handed over his pistol to his other fellow policemen constable Manoj Kumar before entering into the court room. Manoj, who, according to information, was already having a weapon, fumbled in handing the pistol, which resulted in a bullet being fired from the pistol.

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police, Shimla, ASI Ram Swaropp and his two other fellow constables Manoj Kumar and Manoj were suspended immediately for negligence in handling weapons.
