Shimla: Himachal Pradesh is suddenly finding itself under the spotlight of national politics despite contributing just seven MPs to the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha. After Anand Sharma getting a cabinet berth in the Union government, there are now rumours of BJP national vice-president Shanta Kumar landing up with an important job in the Rajya Sabha. The RSS is said to be keen on having him as leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha.

A staunch RSS ideologue, the former Union food minister seems to have won back the confidence of RSS top men after nearly ending his political career a couple of time by making uncomforting statements about first VHP and then Narinder Modi after the Gujarat violence. Earlier, he had lost the race for chief ministership of the state to Prem Kumar Dhumal, but now it seems he is set to be rewarded handsomely for showing patience.
