Workshop at HPU on ‘Educational Rights of Persons with Disabilities’

Shimla: Society for Disability and Rehabilitation Studies, Himachal Pradesh, will be holding a workshop for students’ organizatios on “Educational Rights of Persons with Disabilities” on 26th May, 2009 in Himachal Pradesh University. Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Sarvin Chaudhary would inaugurate the workshop, which will be the first event of its kind in Himachal Pradesh. HPU registrar Rattan Singh would preside over the inaugural function. The key note address will be dilevered by Ajai Srivastava, convenor of the workshop and chairman of SDRS.

Srivastava told the media persons that the sole purpose of the programme is to sensitize various students’ organizations about the rights of students with disabilities. He said, “It will be the first programme in the history of Himachal Pradesh University in which leaders of all the three major and rival students’ organizations are to share a common plateform. This will also be the first worksop on educational rights of the disabled in this hill state.”

Prominent participants of the workshop will be Ranjeet Rana of Udaan, Dr. Mallika Nadda of Special Olympics, Bharat, Shobhu Ram of Blind Persons’ Association, Shikha Chauhan, President, Students’ Central Associan, HP University and senior officers of department of education and department of social justice and empowerment of HP.
