Shimla: Seven candidates filed their nominations for the Lok Sabha polls today including former chief minister Virbhadra Singh who is contesting Parliamentary elections after nearly three decades, and Congress candidate Chander Kumar for the Kangra constituency.
Till date, seven candidates from Kangra, seven Candidates from Mandi, thirteen from Hamirpur and five from Shimla(SC) parliamentary constituencies have filed their nominations.
Mandi town witnessed one of the largest crowd converging on the sprawling Padal ground in past many years as hundreds of vehicles from far-off places in Kulu, Chamba and other upper regions of the state started arriving in the town since last evening. All hotels were packed to full capacity and many people were forced to sleep in their cars. Addressing the rally at Seri pavilion, Virbhadra Singh came down heavily on Dhumal government for spreading canards and misleading the people. He said they had done virtually nothing except taking credit for works done by his government. He said Congress was the only party to form a viable government in the country.

He said it was well known that Dhumal was meting out a step-motherly treatment to Mandi district in matters of development. Only one minister had been taken in the cabinet resulting in resentment within MLAs. Thakur Kaul Singh, PCC president, appreciated the role of Sukh Ram, former union minister, in the development of the state as a minister in Himachal Pradesh and later for bringing “Sanchar Kranti” in the country. He also criticized Dhumal government for doing nothing during its 16-month rule except politically motivated transfers. Dhumal would have to pay through nose by abolishing Administrative Tribunal, he warned. Anil Sharma, MLA and son of Sukh Ram, said BJP should not think that absence of Sukh Ram would help them in any way. “I am accompanying Virbhadra Singh in all the meetings and rallies and telling people the truth that his father was busy with court cases and had directed me to canvass for Congress”, he explained.
During filing his papers, Virbhadra Singh disclosed movable and immovable property worth Rs 22 crore.

  1. Whatever may be the image of Virbhadra Singh in Himachal Pradesh, but he might be a victim of Congress internal politics in Mandi constituency. He must not forget whatever he had done with Sukh Ram. His fate in this election will be decided by Sukh Ram indirectly. I do not think the whole Congress cadre will vote for him. I do not belong to any particular Political Party but always remember ‘As you sow so shall you reap’.
