Governor confers productivity awards to Himachal industries

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Governor Prabha Rau today confered state-level National Productivity Award for micro, small and medium entrepreneurs to Hetro Lab Ltd, Baddi; Acme Formulation Pvt Ltd, Nalagarh; MDC Pharmaceutical Pvt Ltd, Sai Road, Baddi; Aromatrix flora Pvt Ltd, Baddi; Aroma Aromatics and Flavours, Baddi; Shivambu International, Una; Ayush Herbs Ltd, Kangra; KTC Products, Baddi; and Deewal Gramodyog Sansthan, Sirmaur, for their contribution in pharmaceutical, food processing and herbal industries.

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said there was a need for setting up of more agriculture and horticulture based industries and processing units in Himachal Pradesh for improving the lot of small and marginal farmers who constituted about 70 per cent of the farmers community in the state. Despite the progress in farm technology, farmers are not getting the advantage of latest scientific know-how and special inputs should be made available for rural areas to grow more food, besides maintaining quality in production instead of simply quantitative productivity, she said.
The Governor said that National Productivity Council, Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Government of India, in association with Department of Industries, Government of Himachal Pradesh was organising this award ceremony to encourage, motivate and recognize Productivity Improvement Efforts, made by Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) in Himachal Pradesh. She said that this year NPC was celebrating Golden Jubilee and has decided to introduce National Productivity Awards for Micro, Small and Medium enterprises at the State level to encourage the industries. ‘Prosperity through Productivity’ has been chosen as the theme for the year 2009, focusing on creating prosperity through productivity, at a time when, Indian economy is facing a series of new challenges in the new world order, she said. Smt. Rau further stated that there was a need for organising grassroots level training and awareness for industrial workforce, entrepreneurs and managers apart from rendering consultancy to the Government and Industry.

She said that Himachal Pradesh is one of the leading fruit growing States in the country offering immense scope of development of fruit processing industry. She asked the experts and owners of the processing units to evolve a strategy which helped in turning out quality products capable of competing in the market, ensuring remunerative prices to the growers and providing nutritious fruit juices. In addition to the fruits and off-season vegetable processing units in Himachal Pradesh potato chips processing units could also be started in Lahaul valley which is known for its potatoes, she said. She hoped that these awards would encourage and motivate the awardees to achieve higher productivity and modernise their units with a view to upgrade the quality of their produce and increase their share both in the domestic/export markets. She appealed to the entrepreneurs in Himachal Pradesh to propagate a culture of productivity and quality consciousness. She said that these awards would encourage them to innovate new technology and bring in technological improvements to meet the requirements in an everchanging competitive environment.
