Delhi court convicts Sukh Ram

New Delhi: A Delhi court today convicted former Union Communication Minister Sukh Ram in a disproportionate assets case, wherby it was alleged that he amassed disproportionate assets up to Rs 5.36 crore between 1991 and 1996.The conviction has come at a time when there were rumours that the Congress may field him from the state during the Parliamentary elections.

The court would pronounce the quantum of sentence on February 24.
The CBI had registered the case on August 27, 1996, under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the chargesheet was filed on June 9, 1997. The CBI had recovered Rs 3.62 crore from Sukh Ram’s residences in Mandi and Delhi during raids conducted in 1996.
