Shimla: Finally admitting possibility of irregularity in awarding two major power projects in the state, the Himachal Pradesh cabinet on Monday decided to serve notice to Brakel Corporation for allegedly misleading the government. The company was awarded the 960 Jangi-Thopan (480MW) and Thopan Powari (480 MW) hydro project, and there have been allegations that the company exists only in papers. The government has sought an explanation as to why the Rs 193 crore deposited by the company as upfront money be not forfeited for misrepresentation. A vigilance inquiry is already underway about the financial and technical competence of the company.
