Shimla: Gearing up to maintain law and order in the tourist town, the Shimla police will carry out extensive night patrolling, and to insure that the cops do not show slackness in duty senior district officers inclosing the SP, ASP and DSPs too would carry out surprise checks. They will undertake regular night patrolling and surprise checks at various police stations and hotels.
It may be mentioned that the hill town witnessed an increase in crime rate during the tourist season as every year a couple of murders are reported from hotels, and the victims mostly are tourists. All senior district police officers have been assigned a day as night patrolling will be done throughout the week to prevent crimes, most of which take place during the night.
District police chief RM Sharma himself will undertake night patrolling to ensure that police personnel are doing their job well. “Two additional SPs, two DSPs and two district inspectors have already been entrusted the task of night patrolling,” he said.
During night patrolling these officers would make surprise checks at the police stations since at times even cops are found lacking in duty.
Most of the times hotels have been found careless in maintaining records about tourists checking in, which creates problems for the police as the accused, being outsiders, most of the times manage to flee. The police has also been holding talks with the hoteliers to . encourage them to be more responsible in preventing crime, but the effort does not seem to have paid well.
The SP also claimed that night patrolling would also help ensure that police personnel on duty and behave properly with people. “The night patrolling is not just for prevention of crime but also to ensure police efficiency,” the SP said..
