Solan: M.S. Panwar Institute of Communication and Management, Solan, has become the second institution in Himachal Pradesh to have got the licence to set up a community radio station. Earlier, the Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV, Dharamsala, had been granted licence to run a community radio.
Surprisingly, while in most of the states community radio is growing at a rapid pace, there have not been many takers for it in Himachal.
The institute director Dr. B.S. Panwar said the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, has given the permission of starting the community radio station from their campus at Shamti in Solan. He said that the radio station would cover a distance of 12 to 15 km and would cover the areas of Shimla, Sirmaur and Bilaspur district. He said that the community radio revolution in Himachal is now set to unfold in full earnest. The institute has already installed recording and editing equipment on the campus.
