HP govt clears 19 projects

Multi-business conglomerate Indian Tobacco Company Limited (ITC) will set up a mega project in Himachal Pradesh involving an investment of Rs 396 crore, which would create jobs at least 700 new jobs. The project is among the 19 new industrial units cleared by the State Level Single Window Clearance and Monitoring Authority, which met here last evening under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal.
Dhumal said that the 19 proposals would be attracting an investment of Rs 1,541.83 crore and generate employment potential to 4,118 unemployed youth of the state. He said that prestigious industrial houses like Indian Tobacco Company had proposed to invest Rs 396 crore and generate employment to over 700 persons and similarly India Cements would be investing Rs. 244.61 crore and generate employment to 325 persons in the proposed plant at Jawalapur in district Sirmour while Shiva Texfabs and Yogindera Worsted would also be making huge investments in the state. He added that the Authority in its 29 meetings had approved in principle 678 industrial proposals with an indicated investment of Rs. 17,987 crore and employment potential of over one-lakh persons.
Dhumal said the state had succeeded in registering 10,591 new projects besides granting permission for expansion of 315 units with a total investment of Rs. 29,294 crore and creating employment potential to about 3.70 lakh persons. He said that the state government was closely monitoring the 70 percent employment condition to Himachalis in all the industrial and hydroelectric projects. He said ecological safeguards and interests of the people of the state were being accorded top priority while deciding such investments in the industrial and hydropower sectors in the state.
Dhumal said that the matter of providing connectivity to the industrial areas through air, rail and road had been raised with the Punjab government, which had acceded to the request of the state and would soon be connecting the industrial area with express highway and four laned road. He said that efforts were also afoot to connect the Baddi area with Parwanoo by constructing a national highway. He said that the Chandigarh-Baddi highway would be completed by the middle of next year. He further said that the matter of broad gauge would be reiterated with the Union Government and get the same sanctioned for the benefit of the industrialists.
The Chief Minister added that the state offered best investment friendly environment where special industrial package was added attraction to the investors. He said that multi national industrial houses were coming forward with their viable proposals to set up industries in the state, which was bound to benefit the state and the people. He said that the endeavour of the state government to create congenial atmosphere of mutual understanding and cooperation would attract more investments in the industrial sector in the near future.
