Tibetan Olympics from May 15

Dharamsala: Following the ‘long march’ to Lhasa planned by the exiled Tibetans during the Olympics, now Tibetan here have planned to hold their own Olympics at Dharamsala from May 15 to 25.As a precursor, a worldwide Tibetan Olympics torch relay is being held, which started in Delhi last January. It is scheduled to pass through over 10 cities in five continents before arriving back in Dharamsala, Himachal Pradesh.
In its current leg, Tibetans and their Taiwanese supporters held a symbolic Tibetan Olympics torch relay at the National Taiwan Democracy Memorial Hall in Taipai yesterday.
The relay was organized by the Tibetans in Taiwan and the Friends of Tibet, with Miss Tibet 2006 Tsering Chungtak leading the run around the memorial hall.
Addressing the event, Tsering Chungtak said, “The Tibetan Olympics is a unique initiative of Tibetan youths to express love for sports among the Tibetans and to mobilize international support for the Tibetan struggle for freedom.”
During the Tibetan Olympics event, to be held at the Police Ground in Lower Dharamsala and the Tibetan Children Village (TCV) in McLeod Ganj, competitions would be held in several sports events like athletics, football and other indoor games.
