Work on Rohtang tunnel may not begin this year

Manali: Work on the much-awaited Rohtang tunnel by get delayed by at least one year as the tender process for allocation of contracts has once again been stalled for the third time. Alteration in design is said to be the reason behind cancellation of the tender process. The tenders were to be opened on February 11, and will now be opened on February 25. Meanwhile, the companies will be allowed to make amendment in their proposals.
Experts reason that the company that will be allotted the contract will need at least two to three months to shift their machinery to the site before starting off the work. This means, that if the tender process is delayed any further then the work may have to be postponed to the next year as it may not be possible to start the work before the onset of monsoon rains. Originally the tenors were to be opened on December 26 and later January 28 was fixed the day.
