Tribal leaders more bold in disclosing their worth

Shimla: Disclosures made with the Election Commission by candidates contesting the Vidhan Sabha elections from the three tribal constituencies gives an impression that politicians in these far-flung areas are better off then most of their brethrens in rest of the country.

As per disclosure made by Congress candidate from Bharmour Thakur Singh, he has about Rs 6 lakh in his bank account while his wife has about Rs 2.5 lakh. Besides this, he has Rs 1.2 lakh cash and his wife Rs 30,000, while Rs 68 lakh are in his daughter’s name. He has valued his guest house at Rs 10 lakh. Besides this, he has immovable property worth Rs 18 lakh, while he has to pay loans worth Rs 7 lakh.

His opponent, BJP’s Tulsi Ram has disclosed Rs 92,000 as cash with him and Rs 34,000 with his wife. He has disclosed movable and immovable property worth around Rs 40 lakh, while his liabilities stand at around Rs 4 lakh.

BJP candidate from Kinnaur Tejwant Negi has disclosed cash worth Rs 65,000, while the value of his immovable property stands at around Rs 1.2 crore, and he has a liability of around Rs 7 lakh. Similarly, Congress candidate from Kinnaur Jagat Singh Negi has disclosed Rs 47,000 as cash, LIC policy worth Rs 1 lakh, a Ford Icon, agricultural land worth Rs 25 lakh, ancestral property worth Rs 25 lakh, and other immovable property worth Rs 36 lakh.

Congress candidate from Lahaul and Spiti Fungsak Rai has disclosed Rs 7,000 as cash, an Alto car, 50 gms gold, and immovable property worth Rs 3 lakh.

His opponent, Ram Lal Markandya of BJP has disclosed around Rs 2.2 lakh as cash, Rs 2.21 lakh in bank accounts and a car worth Rs 3.8 lakh.
