Dr Dalip K Gosain, head of the KVK and DTC of NDRI said that the programme was sponsored by the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) Shimla and similar programme for more beneficiaries will be organised for five days from October 29.

While interacting with the trainees, Dr Gosain found that all members of the group were mainly engaged in rearing cattle having poor milk production. He found that Satyapal of Village Thandi of Rampur Block was selling around 40 litres milk procured from his self help group members and was earning a profit of Rs 120 each day. Interestingly, Dr. Gosain found that in addition Satyapal was also engaged in selling vermi-compost varying from Rs 3-5 per Kg and urine of cattle at Rs 3 per litre inKinnaur. He observed that in the entire group only one beneficiary was having a buffalo and one woman trainee was member of the dairy cooperative society.

Addressing the concluding function of the first programme, experts stressed that the trainees should share the learnt dairy production technologies amongst the other members of the Self Help Groups of their area so that they could also benefit. This group of 38 members, including 14 farm women, were provided intensive training in animal feeding, breeding, health care, management and making of dairy products besides being shown the elite herd of cattle at the institute’s cattle yard, by the scientists and subject matter specialists of the KVK NDRI, Dr Gosain said.
