Shimla: Chief election commissioner N Krishnaswamy will be in Shimla on Tuesday to review the preparations for the forthcoming elections. The visit assumes importance keeping in view the controversy about whether or not the Election Commission was within its right to announce the dates of the elections without taking the state government into confidence. The state Congress unit has already expressed displeasure over the early scheduling of elections.
Meanwhile, Chief minister Virbhadra Singh left for Delhi on Monday morning to submit a memorandum to the Election Commissioner of India stating that elections to the 65 assembly segments slated for December 19 should be postponed as the weather conditions at that time may not be favourable.
The term of the present Vidhan Sabha expires on March 6, 2008, while the process of elections for the forthcoming assembly polls would finish on December 30.
