Shimla: Himachal Pradesh chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Saturday urged the visiting central study team to help the state get full compensation of Rs 1,270 crore from the National Calamity Contingency Fund (NCCF) for damages and losses caused due to cloud bursts, heavy rains and floods during the month of August all over the state.
He was interacting with the visiting central study team headed by AK Yadav, Joint Secretary (Coord & PG) Ministry of Home Affairs, which called on the Chief Minister here on completion of their visit to Bilaspur, Ghanvi and Sangla. The Chief Minister said that 98 human lives and 3,087 cattle heads perished in the recent rainy season. He said that although the state government had already taken precautionary measures and made preparations to deal with any such eventuality during the rainy season, despite all such preparations the state had suffered heavy losses which besides invaluable human lives amount to Rs 1,270 crore in terms of money.
He said the concerned district administration carried out relief and rehabilitation work promptly not waiting for financial and other aids and delivered affected people immediate relief, blankets, tents, utensils and medical aid so that further damage was controlled. He said the state had set up control rooms at all the district headquarters which were functional round-the-clock for monitoring the damage in the respective districts so that immediate relief and rehabilitation could be carried to the affected families.
