Kasauli: People having their houses within the Kasauil sanctuary area have been caught unaware by yet another wildlife law. Recently, the Kasauli range officer issues a notice to heads of all panchayat not to allow even repair work in houses falling within the sanctuary without permission from the department.
About 10,000 people living in dozen-odd panchayats would be affected by the decision. People are already angry with the forest department for having put yet another restriction on them; however, officials claim they would not be creating undue problems. The affected people have for a long time been demanding exclusion of their panchayats from the sanctuary.
