Shimla: Hearing a PIL filed by Ganga Sangarsh Samit, a peoples’ action group, Himachal Pradesh High Court on Tuesday put to hold work on Alian-Duhangan hydel project coming up in Prini village near Manali. Chief Justice Vinod Kumar Gupta and Justice Rajiv Sharma issued notices to Rajasthan Spinning and Weaving Mills, the company executing the project, and six other respondents, including Union environment secretary.
It has been alleged in the PIL that Jagatsukh panchayat had issued no-objection certificate to the project without taking villagers into confidence. The company has already been fined for illegally cutting around 600 trees in the area and causing widespread pollution.
