UNESCO team starts inspection visit on Kalka-Shimla track

HimVani

Kalka: The two-member team from UNESCO on Tuesday started its six-day inspection journey to decide world heritage status for the 103-year-old Kalka-Shimla rail track. The team, comprising Dr Robert Lee and EV Walker, was welcomed at Taksaal railway station near Parwanoo before they moved ahead to Dharampur station where railway and district administration briefed them about the historic rail line. The team was very specific in its inquiries and even inspected small objects of importance like the century-old wall clock at the Dharampur railway station, which, sadly, has been lying in a state of neglect. The team would cover whole of the track till Shimla before meeting officials in the union government.
