Kullu: Almost the whole of Spiti valley has plunged into darkness with the electricity production at the Rangtang power project coming to a halt after the water storage dam over the river was washed away by heavy rains. The dam had earlier been rebuilt after it was washed away three years back. 

The Himachal Pradesh government had earlier installed generators at the project to meet any emergency situation, but the machinery has not been working as there has been no diesel supply to the place. There is no alternative electricity arrangement for the region.
