Free hostel lodging for SC, ST students

Shimla: Students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) categories will be provided free lodging facility in all three government universities and colleges across the state from this academic year. Students would however have to pay other hostel related expenses. Instructions in this direction were given by University Grants Commission (UGC) to promote education among SC and ST communities.
Himachal Pradesh University has also decided to employ private security at the campus considering that there are not enough security personnel available with the university. The university has also decided to take external help for cleanliness and mess jobs in hostels.

Every thing has been free in HPU. When I was appearing for my XII standard exams I was being coached by MSc students during winter vacations. HPU was also officialy closed for winters. I stayed in my Mama's room in the hostel. There was no dearth of electricity. Gysers were functioning and the hostel mess took care of food. No one asked for payments. I had a nice time for two months and also got decent marks in my exams. Could not enter HPU as a student as moved onto different stream in the race called life!!
