Shimla: Kinnaur Bachao Sangarsh Samiti organised a joint meeting of all bodies that are protesting against setting up of various hydel projects in Kinnaur district, at Rekong Peo today. President of Himalaya Bachao Abhiyan Samiti, Kulbushan Upamanyu, on the occasion, said that grievances of people of Kinnaur forwarded through local samitis would be taken up for discussion with Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh on June 23.Upamanyu said the samitis need to work in co-ordination for achieving the desired goal.
He said the ecology of Kinnaur was very fragile and could not sustain the pressure of hydel projects being implemented there. He urged the government to reconsider setting up of new hydel projects in Kinnaur, and said that the projects already executed should now try to solve the rehabilitation problems being faced by localities.
He further added that the government should be bit more careful towards allotting big projects, including cement plants, as those already sanctioned were facing complex technical and ecological problems.
