Rains nip summers in Himachal

Shimla: While monsoon rains hit Kerala cost a day earlier than expected on Sunday, Himachal Pradesh has been witnessing showers for the last one week, a complete departure from the normal May weather. While the met department attributes the change in weather to western disturbances, the unexpected rains and hailstorms have caused considerable damage to crops in the state. As per an estimate, loss worth Rs 100 crore has been caused to fruit crops alone by hailstorms.

As per the met department, as on Monday noon Dharamshala received 6.2 mm of rail, Sundernagar 7.7, Palampur 10.1, Nadaun, 16.5, Bhunter 1.9 and Shimla 1 mm. Besides this, higher ranges in Kullu, Chamba, Kinnaur and Lahaul & Spiti districts. More rains are expected in the coming 24 hours.
