Himachal agri varsity to market own tea

Palampur: Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University, now Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Krishi Vishvavidyalaya will be entering the market with its own produced and manufactured tea. Dr DS Rathore, Vice-chancellor, inaugurated a tea processing unit worth Rs 60 lakh in the Department of Tea Husbandry in the university, last week.

Around 50,000 kg worth Rs 60 lakh will be produced annually. This will help make the department self sufficient on financial front.

The Indian Council of Agricultural Research and Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education have extended financial assistance in construction and machinery procurement for this tea-processing unit.

The university has its own tea gardens and with the new processing facility, manufacturing will be done under the guidance and supervision of experts in the departments. According to Dr KL Sharma, Head, Tea Husbandry Department, the university had been getting the processing done outside, till now.

  1. This site is pretty informative. My family own some land near palampur and at present no one is cultivating it. We are planning to use that for cultivating tea.So this information is very informative for me and i will talk to my dad about the governments intiative in palampur about tea cultivation. So that we can utilize our land properly and sell our finished goods to growing market.
