Villagers repair road; a slap on PWD

By: Rajeev Sharma

Hamirpur: Villagers in Lanacheta panchayat of Hamirpur have set a fresh example proving how affirmative action is always better than expecting others to improve your plight. Cut off from rest of the world due to road leading to the village being damaged by incessant rains, villagers, after waiting for government officials to clear the way, finally took it open themselves to repair the damaged road.

For nearly two week, the village was undergoing shortage of supplies including cooking gas, while necessary items were being transported by walking at least 20 kilometres. Villagers had been knocking the doors of PWD department for quite some time and had even held protest demonstrations against government inaction, but nothing came out of it. Finally, realising the futility now they themselves have taken up the job. The panchayat pradhan said that the road would be cleared within two days.
