Mandi: A large number of farmers on Tuesday held a demonstration at Gohar to protest against execution of Chabiol hydle power project. Coming together under the banner of Himachal Kissan Sabha, the farmers alleged that at lease 10,000 people in 25 panchayats would be affected by the project. They said that agricultural land in the area would be rendered useless as the project will affect irrigation canals and also gharats there. The 3.5 MW hydel project will reportedly be using a 6 km canal to carry water to the turbines, which, farmers fear, will render their land waterless.
