PALAMPUR: The Himalayan Policy Campaign Committee (HPCC) has written to the Prime Minister, bringing to his notice the ongoing struggle between tribals in Kinnaur and a company executing a hydroelectric project in the Karchham-Wangtoo area.

In the letter, the Committee members have alleged that native tribal people and stakeholders in the area have been facing state repression. The members have expressed anguish that not even the National Tribal Commission has come to the rescue of these native tribals.

HPCC has further alleged that during a police firing incident at the project site, at least five tribals received bullet injuries, and half-a-dozen were arrested. The activists of HPCC have alleged the state administration has come to the “rescue” of the money-powered industrial house, instead of protecting the rights of natives.
