Himachal paragliders to seek govt permission

SHIMLA: Himachal Pradesh government has issued a notification making it mandatory for paragliders to take permission from the tourism department.

The move follows the tragedy at Solang Nullah wherein one paraglider was killed and another injured on Friday, The rules laid by the government already provide for the registration of all adventure sports operators and the areas in which they can operate taking into consideration the safety aspect of the sport for both the tourists and trainers or those involved in organising it.

Paragliders now would have to pay Rs 100 as registration fee, Rs 1,500 per glider per annum as user charges and Rs 500 per annum as pilot fees. Besides, paragliders undertaking commercial flights would also have to pay Rs 1000 per month as charges for using the paragliding sites, or alternatively Rs 5000 for six months and Rs 10,000 for a year.
A technical committee and regulatory committee would be checking the equipment that the paragliders have from time to time, to ensure that the safety standards meet required norms.
