Manikaran: The Himachal Pradesh government may be making tall claims about achievements in the power sector, but the ground reality is that not all is well at the sites where these power projects, big or small, are being executes. In a fresh incident, an entire village in the Parvati Valley refused to vacate their homes for the Parvati Phase 3 Project, on Tuesday.

Reportedly, residents of village Salah forced the local administration, Parvati Project officials, and the police, who were there to evict them, return with blank faces.

The villagers have been demanding proper rehabilitation before being evicted, and also claim that they have not been paid full compensation amount. Villagers have also been saying that they were not compensated according to the market rate of their land, and were not even paid displacement money. On the other hand, the administration has given them three-days’ notice to leave the place. Reportedly, there are 25 families in the village.

Earlier, project promoters of Jagatsukh project in Kullu and Wangtu-Karcham project in Kinnaur have been facing stiff opposition from locals due to clash of interests and environment-related problems.
