Raison: By the banks of the Beas-and on the Kullu-Manali highway- Himachal Tourism runs a camping site here. This place is ideal for a taste of adventure and for spending a quiet holiday in solitary splendour.
At about midpoint on Kullu-Manali road, this is the home of lush orchards and famous for bee-keeping and trout fishing. Here is the core of an intricate web of numerous valleys - each of which is a visual delight and seems more beautiful than the other. The mountain scapes remain spectacular whether in brilliant sunshine or in the haze of the mist. The 'Silver Valley' has nature's treasures that lie carelessly scattered as flowers on the high meadows.

Shirar Kahika.कुल्लु

Kahika is a festival of repentance of past sins and misdeeds. It is also said that the celebration of this festival helps in the purification of human soul. In some places, this fair is held every two, five or seven years.

The fair is held after a local fable. Once a local deity came to Shirarh village along with his friend Naur. Both felt hungry and the deity went to the local Rana (chief) to ask for food but the Rana refused. This enraged the deity and he went at the top of a hill and brought about flood. The turbulent flood destroyed everything making its way. The deity soon realized that his friend Naur had also became a victim of the flood. He felt himself responsible for his death. So he started commemorating this festival every third year in his remembrance.

A square altar is prepared with the branches of a Deodar tree at its four corners. A person from the Naur tribe sits in it and Deo Khel (a form of dance) is performed here. During the festival, he is killed and revived by a special procedure. People confess their sins and repent. This is how the whole incident is symbolically repeated.

Dear Prof Dhumal ji
I am a Himachali, closely persuing your Policy Statements on to the Media on the New Projects, and I draw your attention " companies should contact directly the farmers for buying Land and govt. will not go for Acquisition of Land"

Does this not mean that you are leaving the Industriast to the Mercy of the LAND OWNERS who too can exploit the situation, and who are demanding sky rocketing rates, which make entire Projects ECONOMICALLY UNVIABLE. Indirectly you are driving them away to other states, where CMs are more Firm and strong in their Convictions.

Sir, This way how can you achieve your target of

   a Industrialisation of the state.
b Provide Jobs to Lakhs of Unemployed youths.
c Collect more Revenue thru Taxes.
d Securing more youth votes in next elections.
e Reduce the Debt burden of the state exchequer.
   f Make a Strong Himachal.

Giving you example of Mr Modi, the firm CM of Gujrat, winning elections for the 3rd consequetive term, it may not be possible for you to garner support /Votes if economy of the state is not improved in next 4-5 yrs.

Himachali Youths, who donot find sufficient jobs in Himachal will not vote you for not keeping up your promise for Industrialisation of the State.

No MOU is converted into Industrial Unit so far, and things are left at the mercy of Huge crowd who are demanding rates which have no basis and understand no logic.

Unless you appear firm your above objectives cannot be fulfilled.

Hope your goodself will find this email more timely, eye opening and from a well wisher.

We made the system that gave us this vicious cycle of self defeat and now we are fueling it year after year. Democracy, replete with ignorance and the Civil Services are failed experiments that have been destroying the country for over half a century but we allow them to subsist, still. These people in power do not have to go through the hardships of standing in queues and travelling in unkempt buses, in fact they seem to be too busy driving from one part of the town to another and we don’t have the vaguest idea what they do for us. OUR SUPERHUMAN TOLERANCE TO THE MYRIAD OF EVERYDAY ISSUES AND BY EXTENSION, TO THE PEOPLE WHO RULE IS THE REAL ISSUE. If its difficult to see this as a citizen, lets get an outsider’s perspective – I have a friend from France who teaches French at HPU. She gets invited to parties in a bureaucrat’s house every now and then. To quote my friend, the bureaucrat’s wife is ‘lazy even by French standards’ because she is always late to the University where she is also a language teacher. Also, she has 2 exotic ducks and a full time maid just to keep an eye on the ducks! This is the kind of vanity that these people in power have gotten used to. Further, the foreigner said that the bureaucrat’s friends always get her drunk on expensive French wine. It’s a pity that we accord such VIP treatment to foreigners and have no respect for our own. Needless to say, the foreigner herself felt that at a time that she was being treated as a princess, there were people without basic necessities, perhaps living down the lane. I did not have the heart to tell her that incidentally her hosts were responsible for the despicable condition of those people.

Dear All

Well, I am proud of clean and green Himachal (its clean compared to Mumbai & other metro/cosmopolitan cities). Well I instead of industrialization, focus should be on agriculture & tourism. These are the areas where Himachal has more to offer & grow like anything. I have seen people from abroad & all over India who just can't stop praising beauty of HP. So if tourism is encouraged even in small villages which are far off from cities and realy offer peaceful environment, Govt. can mint enormous money. Same is in case of agriculture. With plenty of water resources available, irrigation should not be a problem. Only new methods for agriculture should be adopted. Like Kerela promotes its ages old therepies & its back water, I personally feel that Himachal is more beautiful. I have been to kerela too but I find Himchal more appealing.
Infact some sort of massages, yoga centres should be introduced so that not only Indian but tourists from can come & see what healing magic are offerred. Every village has potential to turn into a tourist village. If every village offers unique things like pottery, paintings, wood carved toys, wooden plates, spoons, handicrafts etc. I am sure Himachal would be highest earning state from tourism like Rajasthan, Kerela etc.
