Write a Story

Why does Him Vani need you?
Him Vani or HimVani.com is an effort to be a think-tank for Himachal by the means of grassroots journalism.

What is a think-tank?

Think-tank is a conglomeration of people who’d come up with solutions to problems and influence government policies. However, the idea here is not to go to the government with problems. Instead become a facilitator to the government with solutions. You have a problem, come up with a solution. We’ll strive to implement it ourselves first and bring in the government only if needed. The think-tank also strives to influence public mindsets in a positive way.

What is grassroots journalism?
It is an effort on the lines of citizen journalism, where citizens become reporters. Citizens send in stories. But we love to call it grassroots journalism as we intend not to cover hardcore news. We leave that to the mainstream media. We love to call our effort as grassroots journalism because our initiative heavily has a social aspect, where the journalists just don’t report, but come up with solutions. That however does not mean, we do not cover mainstream news. We do, if we find if it’s being reported for the first time. The idea is not to just throw stats at the reader, but analyse what’s happening. For example… everybody loves to talk about Himachal as Number one state in education. Everyone loves to throw stats at the reader about the high literacy. However, we want to tell the reader, what exactly is being done to encourage education.

How can one help Him Vani?
By being our grassroots journalist and by writing for us. Also, if you like our effort, you can send in your donations to us, which can be taken up to reward our writers. This also can be used for paying for server space, domain name and bandwidth usage.

So how does one start?
Start by Registering with us. You’ll be registered as a Subscriber. Then send us your writings to editor [at] himvani [dot] com. As for donations, look for details below.

Is it mandatory to register to write articles for Him vani?
No. It isn’t. You can directly send us your articles to editor [at] himvani [dot] com. However, registration allows us to send important mails to writers at a click of a button. It also allows us to raise your status from a ‘Subscriber’ to ‘Author’ or ‘Editor’ over a course of time, once we see you are capable enough to handle articles on your own. As it is a voluntary initiave, we’d like everyone to take the ownership on themselves. For that we need to build trust and that comes over a period of time.

Does Him Vani pay for writing articles?
No, it doesn’t. Him Vani is a voluntary effort and what binds us, is the passion for Himachal. However, over a course of time (that can take two years/three years or more) we’d like to reach a stage where with voluntary donations we are in a position to reward our writers.

So what’s the reward a writer gets by writing for Him vani?

The reward is satisfaction for doing something for the state. Also, you get a Byline and credit for your work.

But can’t one just start his/her own blog?
Yes, and we welcome that. More the merrier. However, HimVani gives a single platform and is a one-stop shop for all the news and views related to Himachal.

So what can one write on?
Anything related to Himachal. If you are a good cook, send us some Himachali recipes. If you are a good story writer, document some folklore and send it to us. You noticed something unusual, write it to us and share it with people here. If you are doctor, send us health tips and tell us your experiences. If you are student, tell us your experiences in school/college. Do you have a solution to a problem (WE HIGHLY ENCOURAGE THAT) you noticed… whether be a parking problem or water problem in your locality, send it us. You are an entrepreneur, want to share your success story, send it us. (Remember: Sharing knowledge increases knowledge).

Once again… How to start?
Register here
And then start sending us your articles to editor [at] himvani [dot] com

Note: Read email ids without spaces and [at] as @ and [dot] as . These have been done to prevent spambots from grabbing email ids.

Himvani supported Anki Maheshwari and his instablogs but more and more people are coming to know about it. I posted a incident I went through while trekking in himalayas. We contacted ANKIT through himadventures.com and he outsourced us. This issue was raised at indiamike.com also. And later on one himachal website which publishes ‘ interview’ of ANKIT was also contacted about his reputation. I was shocked when I came to know that he had started this blog netwrok.

One of my friend working in india was traveling through SHIMLA and had visited his office also. This is small group which is posting blogs and making money from adsence.

I am sure people will come to know about this one day. My personal internet search had come to following conclusions..

    1. Trekking and mountaineering is their first business and they are operating websites like himadventures.com and himadventures.net

    2. Not only instablogs- they are operating many more websites.

Their address is found on more than 10 websites.

I am sure this couple will go PLACES.

    know something ?

search for : ankit maheshwari, himadventures will bring to the truth what I am saying.

    Will continue further…..

I will like to start a debate that will make clear guidelines to the Himachal policy makers,to concentrate on which field regarding development of Himachal Pradesh and its industrial and its agricultural policy. In my opinion Himachal should concentrate on following fields and devote all its energy on the following fields.1.The first priority should be horticulture ,vegetable production, medicinal herb cultivation and mushroom farming. The climate of Himachal Pradesh is like a green house and it should not be wasted in producing cereals like wheat maize and rice which should be discouraged. The colleges should be opened to provide trained manpower for tissue culture ,biotechnology and holticulture.2.The second important field in Himachal is Tourism and Hospitility, which should be encouraged by giving incentives and improving infrastructure and manpower in Hotel management and tourism 3.The third sector which is to be given priority is power sector. The various hydroelectric projects which are running in Himachal pradesh should have attached engineering institutes to train man power so that Himachli people get the full benefit of harnessing hydal power. 4.The fourth field is drug industry. The Himachal govt should open colleges with courses such as BPharm and MPharm and other fields related to drug industary. The industary will love to employ Himachali youth without any quota if the trained manpower is available. 5.And last but not the least we should concentrate on IT,BPO,KPO,and ITES services. The education should be totally profession based after plus 2 and plain degree colleges should be discouraged.I will like that other intellectuals of the state should contribute in the debate and bring it to the notice of Himachal policy makers.Dr Arun Kapoor

I agree with Dr. Arun Kapoor, the real growth of Himachal would be possible if the Govt. and young enterpreneours come up with schemes suiting to the environment and climate of this beautiful state.

Mind you, after Kerala, HP is the state with High Litracy of 91 %. But their Per capita Income is still lower at 38000 p.a. which means average of 3000/- p.m., though it may be better than many states.

Industrial growth with stricter environmental controls, is also one area where lot of employment potential, and it will generate higher GDP to the national exchequer as well.

It is high time that People in Govt. start making suitable changes in their approaches, and invite larger investments, both by Himachalis and outsiders.

I am writing this as tribute to all soldiers who hailed from Himachal & laid their lives for our beloved motherland. Another republic day is on our door step but not many of us have time to ponder over heroic acts of soldiers on border. For youngsters its nothing but a holiday & day to sleep long. I remember during my school days in Palampur, my school principal used to tell us about Major Somanth Sharma, who was first person to receive Param Veer Chakra & was from Himachal.
I am proud to be from Himachal. ALthough I am away from Himacahl & my home town Palampur but I must say thanks to all those people of himachal who have still retained their honesty & culture. I just love to visit Himachal & eat home made food. All I say is cities like Mumbai are just good to see from outside, but people are heartless. May be their cirsumstances are like that but few years down the line I’d definitely like to do for my state who has given me so much.

Himvani can play a yeoman role in spreading health literacy among the readers, and contribute to prevention and mitigation of needless suffering and misery.
I can contribute towards this cause by articles aimed at increasing awareness of health issues in the state.

    Dear All

Well, I am proud of clean and green Himachal (its clean compared to Mumbai & other metro/cosmopolitan cities). Well I instead of industrialization, focus should be on agriculture & tourism. These are the areas where Himachal has more to offer & grow like anything. I have seen people from abroad & all over India who just can’t stop praising beauty of HP. So if tourism is encouraged even in small villages which are far off from cities and realy offer peaceful environment, Govt. can mint enormous money. Same is in case of agriculture. With plenty of water resources available, irrigation should not be a problem. Only new methods for agriculture should be adopted. Like Kerela promotes its ages old therepies & its back water, I personally feel that Himachal is more beautiful. I have been to kerela too but I find Himchal more appealing.
Infact some sort of massages, yoga centres should be introduced so that not only Indian but tourists from can come & see what healing magic are offerred. Every village has potential to turn into a tourist village. If every village offers unique things like pottery, paintings, wood carved toys, wooden plates, spoons, handicrafts etc. I am sure Himachal would be highest earning state from tourism like Rajasthan, Kerela etc.

We made the system that gave us this vicious cycle of self defeat and now we are fueling it year after year. Democracy, replete with ignorance and the Civil Services are failed experiments that have been destroying the country for over half a century but we allow them to subsist, still. These people in power do not have to go through the hardships of standing in queues and travelling in unkempt buses, in fact they seem to be too busy driving from one part of the town to another and we don’t have the vaguest idea what they do for us. OUR SUPERHUMAN TOLERANCE TO THE MYRIAD OF EVERYDAY ISSUES AND BY EXTENSION, TO THE PEOPLE WHO RULE IS THE REAL ISSUE. If its difficult to see this as a citizen, lets get an outsider’s perspective – I have a friend from France who teaches French at HPU. She gets invited to parties in a bureaucrat’s house every now and then. To quote my friend, the bureaucrat’s wife is ‘lazy even by French standards’ because she is always late to the University where she is also a language teacher. Also, she has 2 exotic ducks and a full time maid just to keep an eye on the ducks! This is the kind of vanity that these people in power have gotten used to. Further, the foreigner said that the bureaucrat’s friends always get her drunk on expensive French wine. It’s a pity that we accord such VIP treatment to foreigners and have no respect for our own. Needless to say, the foreigner herself felt that at a time that she was being treated as a princess, there were people without basic necessities, perhaps living down the lane. I did not have the heart to tell her that incidentally her hosts were responsible for the despicable condition of those people.

    Dear Prof Dhumal ji
I am a Himachali, closely persuing your Policy Statements on to the Media on the New Projects, and I draw your attention ” companies should contact directly the farmers for buying Land and govt. will not go for Acquisition of Land”

Does this not mean that you are leaving the Industriast to the Mercy of the LAND OWNERS who too can exploit the situation, and who are demanding sky rocketing rates, which make entire Projects ECONOMICALLY UNVIABLE. Indirectly you are driving them away to other states, where CMs are more Firm and strong in their Convictions.

Sir, This way how can you achieve your target of

    a Industrialisation of the state.
b Provide Jobs to Lakhs of Unemployed youths.
c Collect more Revenue thru Taxes.
d Securing more youth votes in next elections.
e Reduce the Debt burden of the state exchequer.
    f Make a Strong Himachal.

Giving you example of Mr Modi, the firm CM of Gujrat, winning elections for the 3rd consequetive term, it may not be possible for you to garner support /Votes if economy of the state is not improved in next 4-5 yrs.

Himachali Youths, who donot find sufficient jobs in Himachal will not vote you for not keeping up your promise for Industrialisation of the State.

No MOU is converted into Industrial Unit so far, and things are left at the mercy of Huge crowd who are demanding rates which have no basis and understand no logic.

Unless you appear firm your above objectives cannot be fulfilled.

Hope your goodself will find this email more timely, eye opening and from a well wisher.
