Shimla: It’s raining ambers in Shimla these days with mercury crossing the 30 degree Celsius mark on Saturday creating a new record of sorts. The maximum temperature in Shimla was recorded at 31.3 degrees on Saturday, which was 7 degrees above normal, while the minimum at 21.5 degrees was around 5 degrees above normal.

In fact, the sudden rise in temperature has come as a great surprise for not just residents but also tourists who had flocked in to escape the heat in the plains. According to the metrological office, the state capital’s maximum bettered the previous high of 30.5 degrees recorded in 2005 and 29.5 degrees in 2006.
