Shimla: About 50 tourists, most of them from West Bengal, are stranded in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district. Heavy rainfall in the past few days have resulted in the closure of roads due to massive landslides, officials said Tuesday.

Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Mamta Chaudhary told Himvani that nearly 50 tourists from Kolkata have been stranded in and around Sangla village for the past few days due to massive landslides on the road linking to the village. She said on the telephone that the administration came to know on Tuesday that the tourists were stranded there for the past three days.

“We are trying to reopen the roads but bad weather is hampering the road-clearing operations. The communication network in the area is also not working,” she said.

Ms. Chaudhary further added that nearly 200 tourists, including some foreigners, stranded in other areas of the district were evacuated Tuesday.
