Schedule of HP Legislative Assembly General Election released

State Chief Electoral Officer Pushpendra Rajput today formally released the schedule of HP Legislative Assembly General Election for all the 68 Legislative

The Legislative Assembly constituencies of Himachal Pradesh would be held on 9th November 2017. The Model Code of Conduct has come into effect immediately after the announcement of the date of poll in Himachal. The provision of the code of conduct would remain in force until the completion of the election process.

Highlights of HP Legislative Assembly General Election:

  • Notifications in this regard would be issued on 16 October.
  • The last date for filing nominations would be 23 October.
  • Scrutiny of nominations would be held on 24 October.
  • The last date for withdrawal of candidature is 26 October.
  • Counting would be held on 18 December.
  • The election process shall be completed by 20th December 2017.

The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pushpendra Rajput said that out of total 68 Assembly Constituencies in the States, 17 seats were reserved for Scheduled Caste and three for Scheduled Tribes. The electoral rolls of all the existing Assembly Constituencies had been revised and as per the final publication, the total electors in the State are 4913888 which is likely to increase after final disposal of new form No.6 received during special campaign run in the state from 16th to 30th September 2017. 100 percent photo electoral rolls would be used during the general elections.

The CEO said that EVM with VVPAT would be used in all the 7521 polling stations of 68 Assembly Constituencies of the State. The VVPAT is being used for the first time in the Assembly Election which would enable the voter to see the name and symbol of the candidate for 7 seconds to whom he has cast his vote. In order to ensure that no voter was deprived of his/her franchise, if his/her name figures in the Electoral Rolls, separate instructions would be issued to allow additional documents for identification of voters if needed.
