Accident toll mounts to 14

SHIMLA: Four more people have succumbed to injuries in the ill-fated HRTC bus that met with an accident yesterday near Kandaghat (Solan), on its way to Delhi from Shimla.

While 10 people had died on the spot itself, four more gave up the struggle for life at the regional hospital in Solan.

There were about 50 passengers in the bus, and not 25 as reported by HimVani earlier. As per reports from passengers in the bus, another bus coming from the opposite direction, which was on the wrong side, failed to negotiate a curve and its rear hit the HRTC bus.The driver of HRTC bus, Nand Lal, tried his best to save the bus from being hit, but failed. So great was the impact of the moving bus that the HRTC bus broke the parapet and rolled down the steep gorge. Nand Lal too was killed in the accident. The conductor of the bus too lost his life.

The Himachal Roadways Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus (HP-14-7501) had rolled down a 600 feet gorge near Jokhri village on the National Highway-22 near Kandaghat after being hit by another bus coming from the opposite direction.
