Vidya Stokes distributes free smartphones to digitally literate persons

The Himachal Pradesh IPH and IT Minister Vidya Stokes inaugurated Wi-Fi facility for Thanadhar panchayat and distributed free smartphones to newly digitally literate persons. Under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan IPH & IT Minister, Ms. Stokes inaugurated Wi-Fi service at Thanadhar Panchayat through video conferencing. She also distributed free smartphones to six newly digitally literate persons on the occasion.

 

Stokes said 42559 persons in rural areas of the State have been given training under Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan to operate computer, smartphone or digital devices for basic applications of Information Technology especially digital payments. The trainees are given a minimum of ten days training to handle devices. The persons can get training under this programme in a nearest common service centre called Lok Mitra Kendra in the State.

 

Six senior citizens Tara Devi, Vidya Devi, Dharam Pal Bhaik, Devi Singh, Kiran Devi, Hira Mani and Beena Devi of Nankhari and Barach panchayats received the smartphones and the certificate for training. Principal Secretary IT Jagdish Sharma, Director IT Lalit Jain were also present on this occasion.
