HC awards Rs 1.54 Cr compensation to 20 deceased of Kotropi HRTC bus mishap

    For the victims of bus accidents of HRTC buses occurred on the intervening night of Aug 12 or 13, 2017 at Kotropi village on Mandi-Pathankot Highway in the Mandi District under police station Padhar, District Mandi Himachal Pradesh, the Pre-litigation Mediation Adalat was held in the High Court of Himachal Pradesh under the guidance of Acting Chief Justice Sanjay Karol, and Executive Chairman H.P. State Legal Services Authority.

     

    A total 45 legal heirs of 20 deceased victims turned up in the Pre-Litigation Mediation Adalat out of which 16 accident cases were settled with the Himachal Road Transport Corporation in the Mediation Lok Adalat and a compensation of about Rs.1,54,85,000/- (Rupees one Crore Fifty Four Lacs and Eighty-Five Thousand only) was awarded to the victims.

     

    A total of 16 trained mediators participated in the Pre-Litigation Mediation. The victims showed the keen interest in settling the cases in the pre-litigation mediation as the victims are in urgent need of money having lost their bread earners. It is worthwhile to mention that a similar pre-litigation mediation Adalat had been organized by the H.P. State Legal Services Authority in the year 2016 for victims of HRTC bus accidents in which 250 Claimants had turned up, out of those, cases of 141 claimants were settled. Compensation of Rs. 3, 08, 23000/- had been awarded to the victims and the dependents of the deceased.

     

    The H.P. State Legal Services Authority is committed to provide speedily justice to the victims as mandated under Legal Services Authorities Act 1987.
