Expressing deep concern over the rising water crisis, HP Governor Acharya Devvrat stressed upon judicious utilization of water in daily needs and making concerted efforts for preservation of water sources. He said the time had come that everyone realizes the value of water, which is most essential for sustainability of every life and preserve every drop of it for future.

He was speaking during a deliberation on ‘Water Conservation’ organized by a vernacular newspaper at private school in Shimla today. He said that before assuming the charge of Governor of Himachal Pradesh, he often used to visit Shimla where there used to be a number of natural water sources at that time but it was a reason of worry that most of sources had dried up and many were on the verge of extinction.

It was surprising that the water level in the rivers had gone down in a hilly State like Himachal Pradesh, he said. The Governor said this problem could not be redressed without understanding the use and consumption of water at village level. He stressed the need to conserve the rain water as the hilly areas experiences more rains as compared to the plains. He urged the people to become a part of the campaign for water conservation launched in the State with the cooperation of Magsaysay awardee Dr. Rajender Singh, who is also known as the ‘Waterman’.
