Shimla town to levy Green fee on tourist vehicles

The Shimla Municipality again decided to levy “Green fee” on entry of tourist vehicles in the town scheduled to be implemented from September 15, however it may delay by couple of day more as its software developed snag, official sources said. In the beginning Shimla Municipal Corporation (SMC) bring out bills to be issued to the tourists on the entry points of State and town so that they could pay the ”Green fee” online since last few weeks.

 

The stakeholders could pay the green fee in advance before their vehicles make entry in the town. The SMC has exempted the vehicles of Union Government and armed forces from the levy of green fee. The SMC would levy Rs.200 on small cab and Rs.300 for heavy cabs and just Rs.50 for two-wheeler. The tourist may pay green fee through the application on the mobile or from any cyber café and parking lots of the civic body.

 

The SMC also exempted the non commercial tourists vehicles from the fee having local registration number of state domicile on producing or submission of identity cards in the Estate Branch of SMC. The Mayor of town Mr. Sanjay Chauhan confirmed today that green fee to be collected online may delay couple of days after developing of snag in the payment gateway software as the special apps (application) has been launched for fee collection.

 

The Cash starved SMC once considers most revenue surplus civic body in the   north India targeting generation of over Rs 10 Cr per year. The Raj day hill station and entire district witnessed a footfall of more than 45 lakh tourist per annually largest and more than tourist resort Manali in the state. The fund collected to be utilized for conservation and protection of hill greenery and environment of capital town.
