HP gets nod for 80 percent central assistance for fisheries schemes

    The Central Government approved 80 percent central assistance for schemes under fisheries development keeping in view difficult topography of this hill state.

    The Forest and Fisheries Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri said today that Rs. 11 crore had been sanctioned by the Central Government for various fisheries development schemes. He said that it was possible due to concerted efforts of the State Government that central assistance had been enhanced from 55 percent to 80 percent.

    He said Rs. 2 crore were sanctioned for the development of fishes in fresh water, Rs. 4 crore each for the development of fishes in cold water and reservoirs, Rs. 1 crore has been approved for the housing scheme of fishermen. He said that the amount will be in the ratio of 80:20.

    Mr. Bharmouri said that the amount would be spent on developing the modern technical facilities and construction of new ponds in 15 hectares of area besides undertaking the restoration works of ponds in 10 hectares.

    He said that 106 trout units would be constructed, besides setting up of trout and carps hatcheries, storage of seeds in reservoirs for big fishes. He added that 50 percent assistance would be provided for construction of modern fish centres. He said that projects worth Rs. 663.60 lakh were submitted to National Fisheries Board, Hyderabad and discussions were carried out regarding the same.
