The Member of Parliament from Hamirpur, Mr. Anurag Thakur who is also BJYM President raised the issue of Himachal Central University campus in the zero hour at Lok Sabha today.

Speaking in the house, Mr. Thakur said, “Madam Speaker, the headquarters of Himachal Central University had been fixed at Dehra since 2010. However, the State Government has been desperately trying to play politics and delay the process. The students of the campus are still living in the temporary location and facing many difficulties.”

The Himachal Central University was notified to have 70 percent campus and headquarters in Dehra and 30% in Dharamshala as on April 2010. The land clearance was pending at the central ministry of forests, however, when the Government changed in December 2012, the Virbhadra Government tried to reverse the share of allocation of lands for political reasons.

The forest clearance at Dehra has been approved now by the forest ministry whereas not approved at Dharamshala due to severe consequences to the environment, a major setback for the state government’s plan. The permanent campus issue has been pending and students of Himachal Central University have been set up in a temporary campus at Shahpur.

Requesting immediate intervention by HRD ministry, Sh. Anurag said, “I request the HRD ministry to intervene and get the headquarters established at Dehra as per the original notification. I also request the ministry to take quick action so that the dream of a Central University in Himachal that we all had seen would be fulfilled at the soonest.”
