Himachal BJP leaders meet President to seek CM’s dismissal

Himachal Pradesh state unit of BJP today sought the President Mr. Pranab Mukhejee to dismiss Virbhadra Singh’s three year old government in state alleging that it was neck deep in corruption, inefficient and vindictive.

Unprecedentedly the Union Health Minister Mr. J.P. Nadda led a high level delegation comprising of senior BJP leader Shanta Kumar, former Chief Minister P.K. Dhumal, Rajeev Bindal, BJP President Satpal Satti, in-charge of Himachal wing Srikant Sharma, Rajinder Rana and party MPs from the state.

The delegation also handed over a memorandum to President Mukherjee seeking dismissal of the state congress government alleging that the Chief Minister is being probed by CBI, Enforcement Directorate and IT department over graft charges.

With the meeting between the CM Virbhadra Singh and PK Dhumal sending dubious message among the BJP workers in the state, the new political chemistry has evolved in Himachal politics with JP Nadda now taking a lead role in managing BJP affairs.

The BJP has been putting pressure for Mr Singh’s ouster ever since cases have been registered against him by CBI and ED.

The ED has filed a case under provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against the Congress leader after taking cognisance of a criminal complaint filed by the CBI in this regard in September.

The agency will investigate the allegation that Mr. Virbhadra Singh and his family members allegedly amassed wealth of Rs. 6.1 crore in 2009 – 2011 that was disproportionate to his known sources of income while serving as the Union Minister of Steel.

CBI suspects that during the period, Mr Singh allegedly invested Rs. 6.1 crore in life insurance policies in his and his family members’ names through an LIC agent claiming this money to be his agricultural income. It is alleged Mr. Singh attempted to legitimise the same as agricultural income by filing revised income tax returns in 2012.

Party has lodged strong protest during recent winter session of state assembly held at Tapovan demanding debate on the case lodged against chief minister but speaker did not allowed the debate rejecting BJP adjournment motion stalling the proceeding of assembly.
