State wild life authority today caged another leopard after launching hunt for the last three weeks as it lynched a boy and a local living in the Jhakri –Rampur region in this district
“We have succeeded in capturing the Himalayan leopard who was declared a man eater by the department three weeks ago, after a hard toil of ten days. The trapping of human eater is a big relief for the people of the Jhakri region who were living in the environment of terror and fear for last one month” said DFO Rampur, Mr. Amit Sharma.
The Rampur –Jhakhri area was infested by a man eating leopard, killing four children in the last two months.
“On the September 13 last month, my 6 years old boy was hunted by the leopard but shouting children scarred the big cat, leaving boy seriously injured,” said Sharda, mother of the Nepali boy.
Ten days ago a three-year-old child was killed at Khadkag village by the man-eater leopard. The entire region is terrified by the ‘leopard curfew’ with people avoiding coming out alone from their houses.
In the last two months the forest department has killed one man-eating leopard and trapped two of them. The forest department holds increasing encroachment on the forest lands and rising hydro-power project being constructed in the forest regions, responsible for man-animal conflicts, disturbing the habitat of the big wild cats.
