Election Commission of India suspends Adhaar related activities in Himachal

Implementing orders of Supreme Court of India, the State Election Department has decided to suspend all Adhaar related activities, which are underway in Himachal.

A spokesman of the Election department said here today that as per the directions of Election Commission of India (ECI) all further activities relating to collection/feeding/seedling of Aadhaar number being undertaken currently under National Electoral Rolls Purification and Authentication Program (NERPAP) would be suspended with immediate effect till further directions from the Commission.

The Supreme Court of India has passed an order on 11th August, 2015, that the information about an individual obtained by the Unique Identification Authority of India while issuing an Aadhaar card will not be used for any other purpose, except as may be directed by a Court for the purpose of criminal investigation and as per the order of Supreme Court, the Commission has now decided to supersede all the activities of Aadhaar number.

NERPAP was launched in the state from 3rd March, 2015 to 31st July, 2015 and during this period, Electors Photo Identity Card data of electors would be linked with Aadhaar Data of UIDAI and necessary corrections in electors rolls would be carried out along with the registration of the left out eligible voters and deletion of ineligible electors.
