Shimla: On the call given by Himachal Pradesh committee of CPIM, street-corner protest demonstrations were held against price rise by the Shimla town committee of the party today. The protests took place in Khalini, Panchayat Bhavan at Bus Stand and Sanjaulli chowk. These protest rallies were addressed by Tikender Panwar, Kuldeep Singh Tanwar, Sanjay Chauhan, Vijender Mehra and several other leaders of the party. The speakers lambasted the state and the central government for becoming “unresponsive towards the real issues of the people”. The CPIM has decided to mobilise more than 500 delegates from Shimla town for the 12th March Delhi rally against price rise organized by the Left parties of the country.

The CPIM is holding a series of such corner meetings that will mobilize the people to mount pressure on the governments to withdraw inflationary rise in prices of commodities. Some of their demands include: remove food items from commodity trading, universalization of public distribution system, transport subsidy in the state @ 10%, ration @ Rs 2 per kilo to BPL families, ration to the school children under the mid day meal scheme and black gram pulse @ Rs 30 per kilo.
