Hamirpur: All is set for the three-day state-level Holi festival at Sujanpur Tira, that begins on February 26. The main function will be held at the historic Chaugan, one of the biggest grounds in the state.

HP Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will inaugurate the festival and also take part in the Shobha Yatra to be taken out in the town on that day. Education Minister ID Dime would be the chief guest on the concluding day of the function. Local MP Anurag Thakur would be the guest of honor at the concluding day function.

The Holi of present days is a reflection of the Holi during the great Katoch rulers during which, the rulers used to invite the elite of the town to Tira fort and play Holi with them. Thereafter, the function used to be held at the historic Chaugan. As per old traditions, the festival starts with ‘puja’ at the local temple of Murli-Manohar, located on the eastern side of the Chaugan.

Hundreds of shops would be set up in the Chaugan to add to the charm of the function. These shops will remain there for days together even after the festival.  Hamirpur deputy commissioner Abhishek Jain said local Pahari artists will be given preference during the festival. They will be accommodated during three days.

“Sa re ga ma pa” fame singer Twinkle and “Amul Star” fame singer Sonu Marwal would be the main attraction of the cultural evening on the first day. He said that comedian Raj Kumar ‘Rancho’ would also perform on the opening day of the function. On the second day of the cultural evening Pahari nite would be organized in which Anuj Sharma, Karnail Rana and Dheeraj Sharma would present Pahari songs. Playback singer Sarvjeet Cheema would perform on the last day of the cultural programme along with a cultural troupe from the North zone cultural troupes, Patiala (Punjab).
