HPU disaffiliates HIE Solan from next session

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh University Executive Council on Tuesday decided to disaffiliate Himachal Institute of Education, Solan due to failure of concerned authorities to fulfill university norms required to run an institute.

The disaffiliated institute would be allowed to complete the current course while its affiliation would stand withdrawn from the ensuing session for year 2010-11. A university spokesperson said that university inspection teams visited the institute several times in the past but authorities concerned failed to complete the optimum level of infrastructure requirement essential for such institutes. The institute was running graduate and postgraduate courses, but it had failed to employ required staff and infrastructure pointed out by the university inspection committees.

The EC also discussed release of revised pay scales approved by UGC to university officers, starting from the rank of assistant registrar. Vice-chancellor Sunil Kumar Gupta also informed the EC that the university has received grants of Rs 2.50 crore and Rs 2.00 crores from the Department of Science and Technology and Ministry of Tourism, respectively, for setting up of research facilities in department of physics for experimental material science and also to start three years’ degree course in hotel management at the Institute of Vocational Studies.
