Weather update: Snow claims three lives in HP

Shimla: Heavy snowfall and rains, which continued in Himachal Pradesh for the fourth consecutive day on Tuesday, claimed three lives and left one injured while throwing normal life out of gear and leaving many people stranded on white carpeted highways and roads.

The capital hill town, which was lashed by rains this morning, experienced snowfall in the evening. Around five cm snow was recorded till 10pm. Power supply remained disrupted in the state capital throughout the day. A couple was killed when they were on their way to Tapri from Rampur after an avalanche hit them at Wangtu near Bhavanagar in Kinnuar district this afternoon. Police sources said Dyali Devi (39) died on the spot while her husband Shyam Singh (41), who was pulled out of the snow by rescue team, succumbed to his injuries in a hospital at Rampur. Their son, Chander Shekher, who was injured in this incident, has been admitted to a hospital at Bhavanagar.

A report just received said that a government employee was buried under debris at village Sarala of Chamba district. In Kullu valley, several people are reported to be stranded at various hydro projects in higher reaches.
